Stephen Curry Shoots to Success

Stephen “Steph” Curry, the son of former NBA player Dell curry, is probably one of the most popular names in the NBA today. Curry was born in 1988 in Ohio but grew up in Charlotte N.C.  where his father was a huge star for the Charlotte Hornets. Steph Curry was drafted 7th overall in the 2009 by the Golden State Warriors. He is still playing for the Golden State Warriors next to his “splash brother” Klay Thompson. Stephen Curry close up.jpg

Steph was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent most of his childhood growing up in charlotte N.C. As Steph was growing up in charlotte he went to high school at Charlotte Christian and helped lead the team to multiple playoff appearances and Conference titles. Curry didn’t receive any big name college scholarships because he was only 6 ft. 0 in, 160-pounds as a senior. Curry wanted to play at Virginia tech where his father played and now is in their Hall of Fame, but he did not receive any scholarships to VT. Although Steph had scholarships from Davidson, VCU, and Winthrop he chose to go to Davidson and was a huge star after leading the nation in his junior year with an average 28.6 points per game.

In Stephen Curry’s freshmen year, he helped the Wildcats to 29-5 record. Curry finished the year second in the nation among freshmen in scoring, averaging 21 points per game. Curry also broke the NCAA freshman record for most three-pointers in a season, with 113 three-pointers that year. His sophomore year he finally hit his adult size of 6 ft 3 in.

In his sophomore year he led the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 25.5 points per game while adding 4.7 rebounds per game. Curry helped lead his team to a 26-6 record, this helped Davidson earn its third straight NCAA Tournament attempt. Curry and the wildcats lost in the NCAA Regional Finals against Kansas, but Curry did return for his junior year at Davidson.

Curry stayed for his junior year to develop as a point guard as that would be his most likely position in the NBA. In this season Curry scored a career high 44-points in one game. He als0 extended a career-long streak by scoring at least 25 points for seven straight games. He finished his Final season at Davidson averaging 28.6 points, and 5.6 assists per game. He was also the NCAA scoring leader, and was named a consensus first team All-American. The following year curry declared for the 2009 draft.

Stephen Curry was selected seventh overall in the 2009 draft by the Golden State Warriors. He averaged of 17.5 points, 5.9 assists, and 1.9 steals per game at the end of his first season and was named NBA All-Rookie First team. In 2011 Curry did not play much at all because of injuries.

Before the start of the 2012-2013 season curry signed a $44 million rookie contract extension. Over this season Curry and teammate Klay Thompson worked well together and gained the nickname “Splash Brothers”. Curry also scored a career high of 54 point against the NY Knicks.

In the 2014-15 season Stephen Curry Won MVP and helped lead the team to a Championship title. Today Curry is attempting to lead his team to the best NBA record of all time, and another Championship title. So far this season curry is averaging 29 points per game.
